Dr. Felix Akojie has been a faculty member of the
Biology Department since August of 1991. He earned his Ph.D in Biochemistry
from the University of Ife in Nigeria, in 1985. Dr. Akojie then did
his postdoctoral studies in Chemistry at Loyola University in Chicago,
and Immunology at the University of Vienna in Austria. Prior to this,
he taught Biochemistry at the medical schools at the University of Ife
and later at the University of Benin.

Dr. Akojie's general area of research interest is Cell and Molecular Biology,
and he has published many scientific papers in this area. Scientific
projects include investigations of the mechanisms of antisickling agents
in abnormal red blood cells. He belongs to various scientific organizations
and is currently in the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society's Journal
Editorial Board. He serves as a faculty consultant to the Educational
Testing Service (ETS).
Dr. Akojie is a member of Paducah school board and he was elected the
2003 "Teacher of the Year" by the student of West Kentucky
Community and Technical College. He lives in Paducah with his wife and
four children.
