Joseph Gar

I teach all levels of human anatomy and physiology, including the laboratory sections. I also teach introduction to human biology and health, and occasionally teach a section of basic ideas of biology and the general biology laboratory. I have been at the college since August 2000.

I earned an M.A. in biology at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and a B.S. in zoology at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. My hobbies include travel and world affairs. I am a member of the Kentucky Academy of Science and the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society. I have had several articles either published or in the process of been published in the HAPS EDucator, Lifelines Online, and the Great Ideas in Teaching Anatomy and Physiology Booklet offered by Benjamin Cummings publishing company. I have also presented ideas on alternative teaching strategies at several workshops and conferences.

Education should be centered on meeting the needs of the learner. One way that WKCTC has enhanced the marriage between on-campus instruction and distance education is through the use of flexible learning, whereby the Internet is used for online instruction. The instructional design is user friendly both for the learner and the professor. With the new challenges for higher education, distance learning is ideally suited for the development of more efficient learner-centered delivery of education.
